Upload and distribute a Lightrun plugin independent of the server version🔗

The Upload Plugin File feature, available on the Service Configuration page, allows on-premise Admins to provide a working IDE plugin version when developers are unable to use the Lightrun plugin in their IDE, without requiring a Lightrun server upgrade.

Starting with version 1.76, admins can respond immediately to IDE changes, allowing developers to continue working with minimal disruption. Previously, the Lightrun server had to be updated by an admin for developers to get an updated plugin. Because server upgrades often occur infrequently, this resulted in delays, operational friction, and unnecessary downtime.

As an admin, you upload an IDE plugin version through the Lightrun Management Portal. The server stores the plugin in a central repository and makes it available for developers to access and upgrade, independently of the Lightrun server version.

Rules and guidelines🔗

The following rules and guidelines apply when uploading an IDE plugin version:

  • Supported plugin package formats are:
    • JetBrains IDEs: .zip
    • Visual Studio: .vsix
  • Only one plugin version can be active at a time. Uploading a plugin file overwrites the previously uploaded version.
  • Before uploading a plugin file, keep a local copy of the currently used version to allow quick rollback if needed.
  • The server does not validate plugin compatibility with IDE versions. Admins are responsible for uploading a compatible plugin version.
  • Uploaded plugins are available through the same download and access mechanisms used for existing Lightrun plugins.

Prerequisite🔗

Obtain the plugin file from the Lightrun repository or Support.

Upload the Plugin file to the server🔗

  1. Log in to your Lightrun Management Portal.
  2. Click Settings on the top-right corner of the portal.
  3. From the left navigation bar, select Service configuration under Compliance.
  4. Scroll down to the Upload plugin file section.
  5. Click Browse to locate the file on your local drive.
  6. Click Upload.

The uploaded file replaces the existing latest plugin file in the remote repository and becomes available for developers to download from the Getting Started > **Install the plugin in your IDE* page.
