Manage global snapshot hit count limits for Lightrun plugins

Lightrun provides administrators with greater control over agent resource usage by managing the number of snapshot hits globally for your organization. These settings are accessible in the Service Configuration page in the Lightrun Management Portal.

Max snapshot hit parameters

From version 1.44, the Max Snapshot Count in the Service Configuration been been replaced by Max Snapshot Hits Per Agent and Max Snapshot Hits Per Snapshot.

  • Max Snapshot Hits per Agent

This parameter sets the maximum number of hits each individual agent can record per action. The default is set to 50. For example, if your organization has 10 agents, the total hit limit would be 50 hits per agent, resulting in a combined 500 hits.

  • Max Snapshot Hits per Snapshot

This parameter limits the total number of hits across all agents per snapshot. When enabled, two radio buttons allow you to configure both parameters simultaneously. The default is set at 50. For example, if your organization has 4 agents and the limit is set to 50 hits per snapshot, each snapshot can capture only up to 50 hits, regardless of the number of agents. This parameter is supported starting from version 1.44.

User experience in Lightrun plugin

When creating a new snapshot, users will see the administrator-defined value for the Max Hit Count field. If a user attempts to set a hit count higher than the administrator’s limit, they will receive an error message.

Rules and guidelines

Company-wide settings

These parameters are set at the company level and apply uniformly to all agents and snapshots.

Parameter precedence

Both parameters can be enabled simultaneously; however, the Max Snapshot Hits per Agent cannot exceed the Max Snapshot Hits per Snapshot value.

Impact on existing snapshots

Switching between Per Agent to Per Snapshot mode (or vice versa) will account for hits already accumulated. If the maximum limit has already been reached, no further hits will be recorded. Note that plugin versions released before version 1.44 will not display a warning if the Max Hit Limit set in the plugin is exceeded.
